Happy 2020! We hope that everyone has survived THE HOLIDAYS, taken good care of their teeth, and feel good about the challenges ahead. Now that we are already one month into the new year, it’s time to recognize what’s fast upon us:

February is National Children’s Dental Health month. This month-long national health observance brings together thousands of dedicated dental professionals, healthcare providers, and educators to promote the benefits of good oral health to children, their caregivers, teachers and many others. At Dr Chris McNeil’s office, we appreciate this month in a big way, as it never hurts to remember the effect that good oral health can have on the entire body. This year, the American Dental Association has adopted the slogan “Choose Tap Water for a Sparkling Smile”. The purpose of this slogan is to encourage children to opt for water instead of sugary drinks such as juice, pop, and sports drinks. It is well documented that these sugary and acidic drinks can cause breakdown of the enamel in our teeth, especially when consumed regularly. And the sugar (+chemical additives) has all sorts of other negative health effects as well. Tap water has the added benefit of fluoride, which has shown to aid in the remineralization of teeth, and a reduction in tooth decay or dental caries.

We encourage not only the children of our practice but all of our patients to use this month as a time to focus on developing good oral health care habits and to make sure that your dental care is up to date. As always, if you should need anything at all, feel free to give us a call. We hope you and your family have a happy and healthy 2020!

Sincerely,

Dr. Chris, and the entire team at the dental office (Colleen, Courtney, Esme, Kellyn, Lauri, Shannon)

“I have been Dr. McNeil’s patient for more years than I can count. From the first day I met him and received treatment, I knew I did not need to look any further for a friendly, professional, and competent dentist. He has a unique office manner that makes you feel comfortable throughout any procedure (and I have experienced most).”
